These native wildflower seeds are from plants native to the Palouse Prairie (see map in images), gathered by Rose Creek Seed. NOTE: Sow in fall for better germination; several varieties require cold stratification over the winter.
This wildflower mix contains the following varieties (see image for percentages): Oregon Sunshine, Common Blanketflower, Western Yarrow, Roundleaf Alumroot, Silky Lupine, Arrow Leaf Balsamroot, Wyeth Buckwheat, Fernleaf Lomatium, Nineleaf Lomatium, Slender Cinquefoil, Oregon Checkermallow, Large Flowered Agoseris, Showy Milkweed, Taperleaf Penstemon, and Elkhorn Clarkia.
Recommended seeding rates per square foot vary, so do your own research. As a general rule, sow 1 ounce per 100 square feet. These current packets are .5 ounce (half an ounce), so they should cover 50 square feet, or a 5-foot by 5-foot area.
To plant an exclusive wildflower area, clear the soil of vegetation and rake to even it out. Mix the seeds with sand or something similar, as many seeds are tiny, and broadcast by hand. Gently rake the area. If you wish to pack it down, do so very gently. If you mulch, much lightly. Keep your wildflower patch watered consistently for 4-6 weeks. In the spring, it will be hard to distinguish these plants from weeds, so let them grow a while until you can tell the flower plants from the weeds.
