Clematis ligusticifolia (Western clematis)

$8.00
80 available

Western clematis is one of our few native flowering vines. The flowers attract birds, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Birds and small mammals use it for cover. It is a vigorous grower once established and can reach lengths of 20-50 feet sprawled along the ground or covering a fence or winding around trees and shrubs. Can tolerate dry condition, but grows better with some moisture and partial shade. The beautiful creamy white flowers stay around all summer into fall. The plume-like feathery seed heads are striking; birds like the fluff to line nests. CAUTION: Possible skin irritation from touching any part of this plant. Do not eat any part of this plant, can be toxic to animals.

NOTE: These 10-inch plugs were cut back by the nursery before I potted them in early July, so there is minimal top growth. They are in 9-inch tall treepots - take care when planting, as the roots have not had a lot of time to establish.
