Eriogonum heracleoides (Wyeth buckwheat)

89 available

Also known as parsnipflower, this low growing and long-lived perennial subshrub lives for decades. Drought tolerant once established; prefers dry soil and full sun. Creamy flowerheads that start off pinkish attract a wide variety of native pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and birds. Seeds are eaten by small mammals and birds. Grows about 1 foot tall and 2 feet wide. Buckwheats are early colonizers of disturbed sites.

NOTE: These 10-inch plugs were cut back at the nursery before I planted them, so there isn’t much top growth. I am intrigued by buckwheats for our area and plan to offer more varieties next year. They are in 9-inch tall treepots - take care when planting, as the roots have not had a lot of time to establish in the treepots.
