Sidalcea campestris (Field or meadow checkermallow)

$8.00
60 available

This rare mallow is found mostly in the Willamette valley, but is also found in other scattered places in western Oregon and Washington, and in a small area of eastern Washington a bit above us. The showy and somewhat translucent light pink star-shaped flowers bloom in June and July. They rise up to 5 feet above the interesting mound of leaves (which are reminiscent of lupine leaves) are much loved by butterflies - it is a caterpillar host plant - and provides an abundant source of nectar for hummingbirds and native bees. Field checkermallow can adapt to dry or moist soils, but will likely need supplemental water in the summer.

These plants have gone dormant from their thick growth earlier this summer, but do show live growth. 1-gallon pots.
